Making a playlist for your mp3 player depends upon the mp3 player you have. Some mp3 players do not accommodate a playlist. Other players, such as iPod, require that you create a playlist in iTunes. Some players, such as Sony Walkman, will allow you to make a playlist using Windows Explorer. Windows Media Player is software that can create and sync a playlist to your device.

Instructions

Make a Playlist For iPod or iPhone Devices

  1. 1

Launch iTunes. Plug in your iPod or iPhone device to the computer using the USB sync cable. Once iTunes recognises your device, your device name will be listed underneath the Library in the left pane.

  2. 2

    Select your device name.

  3. 3

Click the "File" menu at the top of the iTunes interface, and then select "New Playlist." A new playlist called "untitled playlist" will be listed under your device name. To rename your playlist, click on the playlist and use your delete key to remove the current name and enter your own name.

  4. 4

Use your mouse to drag and drop your songs into the playlist window. The playlist and mp3s will automatically sync to your iPod or iPhone.

Create a Playlist for a Sony Walkman MP3 Player

  1. 1

Right-click in an empty space on your computer's desktop.

  2. 2

Select "New," and then "Folder" from the menu.

  3. 3

Rename your folder by right-clicking on the folder and selecting "Rename" from the menu. Enter a new name. This folder's name becomes the name of your new playlist. You can then use your mouse to drag and drop the songs that you want on that playlist into the new folder.

  4. 4

Connect your Sony Walkman. Click "Start" and select "My Computer." Double-click on the drive that represents your Walkman. Inside you will see a Music folder. Drag your newly created folder from your desktop and drop it into your Music folder. You now have a playlist.

Create a Playlist Using Windows Media Player

  1. 1

Open Windows Media Player. Select the "Library" tab at the top of the interface.

  2. 2

Click "Now Playlist List" in the right pane, and then select "New Playlist" from the drop-down menu. A new playlist will be added to your library. To rename the list, right-click on the right-hand side of the window, and select "New Playlist" from the drop-down menu. You can then right-click on the new playlist that has been added to your library to rename it.

  3. 3

Drag and drop your mp3s from your computer into the new playlist window.

  4. 4

Connect your mp3 player to your computer using the USB sync cable. Then select the Sync tab.

  5. 5

Click your newly created playlist from the left pane. Then click the "Add" button so it will be added to the Sync list. Press "Sync" and the software will sync the list and tunes to your mp3 player.
