How to measure sleeve arm length

Updated April 17, 2017

Today, many people order their clothes from catalogues or the Internet. Such consumers must take accurate body measurements since they cannot try on their garments prior to purchasing them. When measuring sleeve arm length for long-sleeve garments, you can accomplish the task quickly and easily using a method that is applicable to both men and women.

Place your right hand on your right hip, with your elbow bent so that your arm forms a 90-degree angle.

Place the end of the tape measure at the base of your neck in the centre, directly above your shoulder blades.

Enlist the help of an assistant to extend the tape measure from your neck along your shoulder and arm to the tip of your elbow. Note the measurement in inches. Measure from the tip of your elbow to your wrist. Note this measurement.

Add the measurements together. Add the neck to elbow-tip measurement with the measurement from elbow tip to wrist. The combined total is your sleeve arm length.
