Open the bonnet of your car. Tug on the corners of the front grill and release the locking clips on both corners. Detach the bonnet latch with a pliers and release the clip that holds the front grill. Lift the front grill from the bonnet and set it aside.
Remove the two screws that attach the bumper to the car with a ratchet. These screws are the ones closest to the headlight. Then, remove the two screws under the fender by twisting them with your hand.
Pry out the plastic piece on the lower part of the bumper with a flat screwdriver. As you remove the piece, you'll see a screw on the upper left corner of the hole. Remove the screw using a torque socket. Gently pull the bumper away from the body of the car.
Remove the plastic shielding around the headlight. Unscrew the two screws on the top of the plastic shielding. Pull the bumper out slightly and remove the two screws underneath the headlight with a screwdriver.
Pull the headlight out, enough that you can unplug the harness at the back. Carry the headlight over to a flat work space.
Pry open the rim of the headlight with a flat screwdriver. Gently open the front plastic cover of the headlight. Remove the bulb carefully and make sure that you hold it by the prongs.
Wipe out the inside of the headlight with a damp paper towel to remove surface dust and dirt. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth and wipe around the rims, the edges, and all surfaces on the inside of the headlight. Allow the inside of the headlight to dry for at least 30 minutes.
Reattach the bulb into the headlight. Slide the bulb into place. Put the front plastic cover of the headlight back to the headlight assembly. Gently push the cover into place.
Plug the headlight harness back and screw the headlight back into the bumper. Position the bumper back to its place and reattach the screws that hold the bumper to the car. Re-attach the screw on the inside of the hole on the lower part of the bumper, as well. Put back the plastic piece that goes into the hole, then put back the screws under the bender.
Put back the bonnet latch and then lock the clip back into place. Push back the bonnet grill to lock in the grill back to the car. Close the bonnet of your car. Turn on the car headlights to see if the lights are working accordingly. Check all lights and signals before driving your car.
Tips and warnings
- If you think you might forget where each screw goes when it's time to put the headlight back in, lay each screw on a piece of paper as you remove it, and jot a note where it belongs in the car.
- Be careful not to touch the glass of the bulb in the headlight, as they are pressurised. Hold it by its prongs around the base.
