While rug runners add beauty and colour to a room when you use them along walkways in your home, they can also present danger and difficulty if they do not stay firmly in place on the carpet. Eliminate the chance that people will trip over your rug runners by attaching them securely to the carpet underneath with double-sided adhesive carpet tape. This tape will not mar the surface of the carpet because it easily releases when you are ready to remove it.

  1. 1

Position the rug runner where you want it on the carpeting. Make sure you are happy with the placement before you attach the carpet tape.

  2. 2

Turn the rug runner upside down, and affix a line of carpet tape along each long and short edge of the rug runner. Position the tape at the outside edge of the rug runner.

  3. 3

Remove the adhesive backing from the double-sided tape to expose the second sticky side of the carpet tape.

  4. 4

Turn the rug runner back over so the right side of the rug is facing up. Carefully position the rug runner where you want it on the carpet, and press down firmly on the edges of the rug runner to attach it to the carpet.

  5. 5

Remove the rug runner when you desire by pulling it up firmly. Turn the rug runner upside down and pull the double-sided tape up from the backside of the rug runner. Discard the carpet tape.
