The Recycler virus is a devastating, widespread computer virus that is very tricky to remove from your system. It commonly infects USB flash drives, then spreads to your personal computer. Once on your computer, the virus may download code from malicious websites, steal your personal information or even change your administrator password. It is essential to remove the Recycler virus as quickly as possible. Simply deleting the file will not work, as the file will reappear or never completely delete.

    Navigate to the website in Resources below to download the necessary antivirus program. This site will initiate an immediate download of "RemoveRECYCLER.ex1."

    Change the extension of the file from .ex1 to .exe. Otherwise you will not be able to run the virus removal program.

    Copy removeRECYCLER.exe to all drives you believe are infected. To be safe and thorough, place a copy of the file on your main hard drive, your USB drive and any external hard drives you have recently used.

    Double-click each copy of removeRECYCLER.exe to eliminate the Recycler virus.
