How to remove a black grease spot from carpet

Updated November 21, 2016

A black grease spot in the middle of the floor can ruin an entire room. Grease stains can be hard to get out, and certain chemicals are harsh on carpet. Dishwashing liquid soap is able to lift grease out of most carpets and remove the stain.

Fill a spray bottle with 1 litre of water.

Add 5 ml of dishwashing liquid soap and mix well. Choose a soap that does not contain bleach or lanolin.

Place a paper towel over the grease stain and gently press down on it to soak up some of the grease.

Spray the black grease stain with the spray bottle so the entire stained area is soaked with the solution.

Wait two minutes for the soap solution to work its way into the stain.

Dampen a rag with water and rub at the stain vigorously.

Wash out the rag and use it to blot at the stain with water.

Try this method two more times if it doesn't work the first time. If the stain is stubborn, try a carpet cleaning solution available at most hardware stores. Follow the instructions on the carpet cleaner.
