How to Replace My Ink Cartridge in My HP C5280

Updated July 19, 2017

Changing the ink cartridges in a printer is a regular maintenance aspect of owning one. The HP Photosmart C5280 multifunction printer is a printer, scanner and copy machine. It uses the HP 74 and 75 cartridges for standard printing or the HP 99 and 100 photo cartridges. Replace the ink cartridges in your HP Photosmart C5280 printer if the printer has run out of ink.

Open the top lid of the printer with the printer turned on. Hold the scanner door to prevent it from falling open. When the lid is opened, the internals of the printer will be exposed and the print cartridges will slide to the right where you can access them. Give the printer a moment to complete this operation and become silent.

Carefully push an ink cartridge down until it clicks. The cartridge can then be lifted out of the carrier. Repeat this with the other ink cartridge if you are replacing both.

Remove the first new ink cartridge from its packaging and peel the tape from the metal contacts on the bottom of the cartridge. Avoid touching the contacts.

Slide the cartridge forward into the slot inside the printer. The cartridge will click when it is locked in place. Repeat this process with the other cartridge if you are replacing both.

Close the printer lid. The printer screen will prompt you to print a test page to confirm that the print heads are properly aligned. Make sure that you have paper loaded in the printer, and press the "OK" button.

Press the "OK" button again when the test page is finished.
