Only the Address Book program that comes with your Mac computer is capable of creating a contact group for your list of contacts. Once you have created the contact group on your Mac, you can transfer it to your iPhone. Contact groups are very convenient when you want to send a group e-mail or text message at once when you have news you want to share. Setting up a contact group removes the hassle of having to individually contact each person you want communicate with.

Open the Address Book program on your Mac OS.
Click "File" and select "New Group" from the drop-down menu.
Select a label that you would like to give to the group, for example, families or work. You can rename the contact group anything you like.
Connect your iPhone to your Mac using the Apple USB cable. Insert the larger end into the iPhone and the smaller end into your computer's USB hub.
Sync your iPhone with iTunes by clicking "Sync" when iTunes automatically launches. Your group contacts will be saved on your phone.
Add new contacts to the group from the iPhone by tapping "Contacts" and "Groups." Select the group from the top left corner and click the "+" sign to add a new contact to that group.
