Cleaning and polishing a large floor can be difficult and time consuming if you are equipped only with a mop and bucket. Using a floor buffer makes the job much easier. Although a buffer is powerful and can potentially cause damage, it is an invaluable tool.

Before buffing, check the pad to make sure it's clean and doesn't contain debris, such as small pebbles, that can scratch your floor.
Plug in your buffer and move it to a corner so that the plug is behind you and to your left.
Spread polish over the floor's entire surface.
Turn on the machine and buff from left to right as you move across the floor, keeping the cord away from the buffer. Moving from left to right works in conjunction with the spin of the buffer to prevent damage to the floor.
Frequently stop to check that the pad is clean.
Replace any pad if it becomes too dirty.
Clean your buffer pads immediately after buffing so they can be used again.
