Cooking a T-bone Steak on the Stove

  1. 1

Put a heavy-gauge pan, preferably cast iron or a type of pan with a non-stick surface, on the stove. If you're using a cast-iron frying pan, pour a couple drops of cooking oil onto a napkin or rag and rub a light coating into the pan.

  2. 2

Heat your skillet on the stove for three to four minutes over medium heat.

  3. 3

Season the T-bone steak according to your taste. Common seasonings include salt, pepper and garlic powder. You might even use a packaged steak rub or Greek seasoning to season the meat.

  4. 4

Place the meat in the pan. For a 1-inch steak cooked medium-well, leave it in the pan for about eight minutes on one side. (Add a minute or two if you prefer well-done steak.)

  5. 5

Turn the steak using a meat fork after the first eight to 10 minutes of cooking, and cook it for an additional eight to 10 minutes on the other side.

  6. 6

Remove the steak from the pan.

Tips and warnings

  • Steak goes well with vegetables and a starchy food like bread or potatoes.
  • Add some steak sauce if desired.
