Host a '80s party for yourself and your guests to have a totally awesome time. The 1980s were a decade for men to wear too-tight jeans, women to fluff their hair to the extremes and eyeliner was gender neutral. Because the '80s had distinguishable clothing and trends, it's easy to find era-appropriate attire. Invite your friends to recreate the gnarly experience they had during the '80s with decorations and entertainment based around the decade's trends.

Pick a date in advance for the party. You want to have adequate time to inform your guests of the themed event, choose your party location, decorate, and prepare food and plan for entertainment.
Make arrangements for a party location. The location should be centrally located for your guests, such as your home or a community centre.
Create gnarly invitations to send to guests to invite them to the '80s party. Design the invitation around your '80s theme by having bright, neon words describe the party in detail. Inform the guests where the party will be held, what food or drink to bring, the time of the party and an RSVP date. The invitation should also specify other details such as asking the guests to wear only '80s-appropriate attire.
Decorate the room to bring back the feel of the decade. Hang movie posters around the room from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "The Terminator" and "The Little Mermaid." Purchase large cardboard cut-outs from a movie supply company of the Hulk, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
In addition to movie characters, purchase a cardboard cut-out of a generic scene in the '80s, such as a prom, and cut the faces out for a head hole. Guests can stick their heads in the hole and have their picture taken from the '80s.
Other decorations include cutting shapes out of neon poster board and pasting these to the walls, hanging balloons around the room and old records from the ceiling.
Set up a food table with finger foods for guests. Simple eats, such as chicken fingers, ravioli and shrimp, are easy grab-and-go foods. Purchase pizza for the main course as a tribute to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In addition, set up a dessert table filled with cookies, pies and tarts.
Choose entertainment for your party that gets guests out of their seats and dancing. The '80s had a diverse selection of music, such as the B-52s, Beastie Boys, U2, Cindy Lauper, Michael Jackson and Madonna. Create mixed tapes or CDs of music to be played throughout the night so guests can dance.
Incorporate a karaoke time into the party for guests to get up and sing their favourite '80s music. In addition, set up a large game of Pictionary and place Rubik's Cubes on the tables for guests to play.
