Sign up for an e-mail account with an e-mail provider.
Try not to use an e-mail address that is similar to another e-mail address, assuming you choose one that was initially unavailable. For example, if "firstname.lastname@example.org" is unavailable, don't choose "email@example.com."
Make sure the selection to have your e-mail address put in the email provider's directory is rejected. (Note: Yahoo! is one of the more popular sites that puts your e-mail address in a directory, hence the reason why Yahoo! sends so much junk mail.)
Be careful with sending forwards. Recipients of your e-mail may "Reply All" or send a message to someone else who may "Reply All."
