Suzuki outboards are produced by Suzuki Marine. They can range from 2.5 horsepower to 300 horsepower. Outboard motors are attached externally to the stern. Common problems in Suzuki outboard motors can be easily diagnosed from home.

Motor Won't Start

Inspect the primer bulb if the engine is not starting. If there is no resistance, fuel is not entering the engine. The primer bulb and entire fuel line may have to be replaced.

Power Loss

Check the spark plugs and filter if there is a sudden and noticeable drop in power while the engine is at full throttle. The plugs may simply need cleaning or replacing, or perhaps water has got into the fuel filter. Also, check to see if there is a kink in the fuel line. These are basic, do-it-yourself repairs.

Vibrations

Inspect the propeller for damage. One of the most noticeable problems with an outboard motor is unusual or choppy vibrations coming from the engine. This abnormal movement may indicate a bent, broken or altered propeller. Turn the motor off, pull the motor out of the water and visually inspect the propeller for damage.
