The MerCruiser 5.0 EFI is a boat engine manufactured by Mercury Marine, an American company that was founded in 1939. Currently a division of the Brunswick Corporation of Lake Forest, Illinois, Mercury Marine has over 4,100 employees worldwide and is headquartered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Engine Performance Specs

The MerCruiser 5.0 EFI is a fuel-injected, 4-cycle, 8-cylinder, gasoline-powered engine with a displacement of 5.0 litres (305 cubic inches). At 2,000 RPM, it delivers 240 horsepower to the propeller shaft with a maximum revolutions per minute (rpm) of 4,800 at wide open throttle (WOT).

Engine Electrical Specs

The electrical system is a 12-volt, negative ground system. The alternator generates 72 cold cranking amps (CCA) and 65 hot operating amps. The recommend battery for this engine is a marine battery with 550 CCA and a rated output of 170 amps per hour.

Engine Technical Specs

The firing order of the cylinders is as follows: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. At 2000rpm, the oil pump delivers 13.6 to 27.2 Kilogram per square inch (PSI) of oil pressure and a minimum of 4 PSI at idle (600rpm). Normal operating temperature is 71.1 degrees C regulated by a thermostat. Ignition timing is 8 degrees before top dead centre (BTDC).
