Free Online Mental Health Training

Updated April 17, 2017

Numerous organisations provide free information and training on mental health, including organisations from both public and private sectors. Free mental health training is available for professional licensing, continuing education or for general knowledge.

Free training on the Internet is available in such subjects as suicide prevention, women's mental health, early childhood mental health and many other relevant topics. On its website, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers more than 100 free publications with mental health related information, including training materials.

You can also download free training materials on such subjects as abuse and trauma, alcohol problems in intimate relationships, Alzheimer's disease, anger management, substance abuse, as well as materials for courses on depression, schizophrenia and suicide prevention.

Professional Training

If you plan to obtain licensing in your mental health field, you can download free online materials to help prepare you for testing as a psychologist, therapist or social worker.

You may come close to gaining professional insight into specific mental health issues through free online training. The number of sites where you can obtain free training in mental health, however, is limited. To be successful, you need to be a self-starter and to be able to do effective independent study.
