How to Copy a File From the Computer to a Memory Stick

A memory stick, also known as a flash drive, is used to store data which can be copied from a computer. Music, documents and pictures are a few of the convenient file types carried in this portable device. There is a simple and effective method to to copy a file to a memory stick.

  1. Insert your memory stick to an available computer USB port. Allow your computer to register and read the device. In the event the memory stick is not recognised, connect it to a secondary USB port.

  2. Locate the file in question. A typical method is by launching "My Computer" through the desktop or Start menu shortcut. Right-click the file and click "Copy" from the context menu available.

  3. Browse to the memory stick from the list of available drives through "My Computer." Right-click the memory stick's content space and select "Paste" to copy the file. You can also click the file and drag it to the memory stick while your main mouse button is pressed. Release the main mouse button within the memory stick's content space to finish the copying procedure.

  4. Double-click the "Remove Hardware" safety icon by the clock on your computer task bar. Select the "USB Mass Storage Device" option. In the next confirmation window, select the drive in question again and click "OK" to safely remove your memory stick.
