Linux is an operating system developed by Linus Torvalds. It is a free, open-source alternative to Windows, Macintosh, and proprietary Unix operating systems. There are a variety of operating systems based on Linux including Ubuntu, SUSE, Mandriva, and several "Live CD Versions" that will run off a CD without actually installing Linux to the computer. Most scanners, printers and all-in-one units are Linux-compatible. Drivers are available from the open-source community and some third-party suppliers.

Every DX series scanner has a Linux-based driver and is Linux-compatible. The proper driver for the DX series is the Epson driver and is unmaintained.
Most of the ES series scanners appear to be Linux-compatible and use the Epson driver. Some of the scanners have been tested on the Epson2 driver, version 1.0.124, with good results. Owners may want to test the Epson2 driver first, as this is the most current driver. The ES-1000C, ES-D400 and ES H7200 do not appear to have Linux drivers.
According to Scanner Access Now Easy (SANE), some of the Expressions scanner series are untested on Linux drivers, but those that have been tested work well. Those not tested are believed to work well, too.
FilmScan 3200 is not supported by a Linux driver.
Most of the GT series scanners appear to run well on the Epson2 driver. Some of the scanners such as the GT-1500, GT-2200, GT-7400U, GT-7300U, GT-7200U, GT-8400UF, GT-9600U and the GT-20000 do not appear to work well on the Epson2 or Epson drivers. An epkowa backend driver plus a non-free interpreter are available to enable the interface. The GT-D series, GT-F series, GT-S series and the GT-XS series all require the epkowa driver.
Most of the Perfection series scanners seem to work well on either the Epson unmaintained driver, the Epson2 1.9.124 driver, the Plustek 0.52 driver or the SnapScan 1.4 driver. Some of the Perfection Photo scanners work better on the epkowa driver.
The RX series scanners work well on the Linux Epson unmaintained driver.
V700 and V750 Scanners
V700 and V750 scanners are Linux-compatible and will run on the Epson unmaintained driver.
