Toyota Rav4 Problems

Updated February 21, 2017

Toyota is one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers in the world and has long been known for its quality vehicles. As of 2009, however, Toyota has fallen under scrutiny for some odd issues with some of their vehicles and have had to recall some models. The 2009-2010 Rav4 is one of these models. Among the recall, there are some other problems typical of this vehicle.

The 2009-2010 Rav4 has been recalled due to the accelerator sticking, creating a potentially dangerous situation where the vehicle speeds up to a point where the driver cannot control it. Production of this model has currently ceased due to this issue.

Paint Chipping Issues

The Rav4 hood is susceptible to paint chipping easier than the bumper or other parts of the vehicle. These issues have been reported by Rav4 customers. Toyota claims the area that an individual driver commutes to and the general way the owner of the Rav4 drives will affect the paint on the hood. The bumper, however, seems to hold its paint and is quite durable comparatively, according to customer reviews.

Vehicle Noise

Numerous complaints have been issued by Rav4 owners of excessive vehicle noise in the four-cylinder versions. This is due to the smaller engine and thus the higher RPMs (revolutions per minute) that the engine must hit to maintain higher speeds. The Rav4 six-cylinder does not receive this complaint, according to consumer reviews.
