Sweet 16 Winter Party Ideas
A winter birthday party can be just as much fun as a summer birthday. (snowflake image by Horticulture from Fotolia.com)

As your child gets older, she may be disappointed to have a winter birthday. After all, girls with their birthdays in the summer can have pool parties or beach parties and have fun in the sun while celebrating their birthdays. However, there are some distinct advantages to having a birthday in the winter, and your child should have no trouble choosing a theme for a Sweet 16 birthday party, even in the middle of winter.

Ice Skating

Ice skating is a great way to have fun while getting some exercise and celebrating a 16th birthday. Make sure none of your child's guests have medical conditions that prevent them from joining in the fun. If you can find an outdoor rink, you can organise a real winter wonderland birthday party, celebrating with hot cocoa at home afterwards. Even if there's no outdoor rink nearby, you can find indoor rinks near many large cities, and there's no reason why you can't have a Sweet 16 ice skating party inside!

If you live in a climate that gets a lot of snow, a sledding party can be great for teenagers. Make sure you have enough sleds for everyone. If need be, you can check around with other parents and see if the children can bring their own sleds. Celebrating with cocoa, hot tea, or even warm apple cider is a great way to warm up after a day on the slopes.

Ice Queen

If it's really too cold to spend time on outdoor activities for your child's Sweet 16 birthday party, have an Ice Queen party indoors, with the theme of cold. Make or buy an ice cream cake, have beverages with ice cubes, watch James Bond in Die Another Day, where he stays in a hotel made completely out of ice. Decorate with snowflakes and Christmas lights for an especially cold feeling. If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you can hire local artists to make ice sculptures for the party. Just because you have to stay inside doesn't mean that your daughter can't have a winter-themed Sweet 16.
