Many students look forward to the end-of-year school awards that are given out each year. It can be difficult to come up with something that will benefit the student while still being a memorable gift. These award ideas will work for academic, citizenship and sports awards. You can combine the ideas and give more than one for each award.

Traditional Awards

One option is to go the traditional route and award the students with a plaque, a trophy or a medal for their hard work. These awards are nice because you can personalise them with the name of the student and the date. It provides the student with a memento to take home. The downside is that the student may not be able to use the award for anything other than a display.

Scholarship Awards

Scholarship awards can be a cash award or a savings bonds given to the students who earn the awards. The scholarship amounts do not need to be large. They can range from £65 to £325 for each student. Ask local businesses and school booster clubs to donate money for the awards. The parent-teacher association (PTA) can also raise the money to give as an award. Elementary schools can give savings bonds, but the bond would not earn out in time for middle school and high school students.

Gift Tokens

Gift tokens allow the students to purchase the items they need or want the most. Ask local businesses to donate gift tokens to give out with the awards. The amount depends on what the business is willing to give. The PTA or another parent's organisation can also raise money to purchase £13 gift cards to give out with end-of-school awards each year.

Pen Set

A pen set works well for graduating seniors or older students. This gift may be better suited for art students or writing students but can be given to anyone. The pen set can be engraved and personalised. This makes a nice addition to a certificate or plaque given to the student, although it can be given alone.

MP3 Player

An MP3 player makes a nice school award. This award would work best in elementary school or middle school, since most high school students already have one. You can purchase a smaller sized MP3 player starting at around £13. Some companies will also engrave the players, so you can put the student's name, the award and the date on the MP3 player.
