Wax sticks are wax-covered yarn or pipe cleaners. You can purchase them or make your own craft sticks at home. Wax sticks not only bend to make crafts, but also stick together and stick to many surfaces. They may also be reused many times. Kids can create a large variety of creative crafts.

Jewellery

Kids can choose one or more colours of wax sticks to bend into shapes for jewellery. They can braid or twist the sticks to make necklaces or bracelets. An old, sturdy bracelet can be transformed by wrapping wax sticks around the bracelet frame until it is completely covered. Have kids bend wax sticks into hearts or other shapes to hang from a piece of string for a necklace or to make a key chain. Form a chain with several shapes created from the sticks to make jewellery.

Transform a Pencil

Wrap one or more wax sticks around a pencil, starting halfway up from the lead end. Keep wrapping until the eraser is covered. Leave about one-half inch of the last wax stick loose at the top of the pencil to attach an animal or person figure. Make the animal or person by wrapping some sticks around a finger. Pull the created piece off the finger, then continue to add features like a head, ears, tail and other body parts to make a desired figure. Push the loose end left from the stick on the pencil into the bottom part of the figure and squeeze to attach firmly.

Make Holiday Ornaments

Kids can bend Christmas or other holiday colours into ornaments to hang on a tree or just around the house. Make trees, elves, Santas, candy canes and angels for Christmas. Create some bunnies and eggs for Easter. Halloween spiders, scarecrows, pumpkins and ghosts can be hung from a clothes hanger for a spooky mobile. Hearts can be formed from the wax sticks, then put inside Valentines or stuck onto a refrigerator, window or mirror to decorate for Valentine's Day. Turkey ornaments can be created as flat or rounded figures and placed on the table for Thanksgiving decorations.

Cover a Can or Bottle

Kids can wrap wax sticks around a clean aluminium or cardboard can or a clean plastic bottle. Create pencil holders, flower pot containers, puppets, rockets or aeroplanes to display and many other creative things. Covered containers make interesting gifts or reusable gift containers.

Make a Game

Form a Tic-tac-toe grid with wax sticks. Then, bend five sticks into one shape and five into another shape to play this game with a friend. Twist two or more sticks together and form into horseshoe shapes. Make two goals by twisted and bending other sticks together. Play horseshoe toss. Form some wax sticks into a boomerang shape. Play a toss and catch game alone or with a friend.
