Team-building exercises are an effective way to increase communication, collaboration, focus and teamwork. Activities can be used in the workplace or in school to enforce personal and professional development. Team building allows others to understand each person's teamwork style and generally ends with a debriefing section. Positive activities should be used to maintain relationships and increase self-esteem and confidence.

Ice Cream Boat, Root Beer Float
Nothing says fun like desserts. This challenge will allow team members to communicate effectively, assist others, incorporate a strategy and have fun. This exercise requires string, plastic cups, vanilla ice cream, root beer, ice cream scoops and straws. Teams require a minimum of four people.
The team leader must place all unopen items on a table. Patrons must create a circle around the table and tie wrists together with the person beside them. The team must follow the steps of opening all of the packages, receiving a cup, placing vanilla ice cream in the cup, pouring root beer into the cup, placing a straw in the float and drinking the root beer float. Teams find it more challenging of an exercise than expected.
Debriefing questions should include what strategies and what communication styles were used. Teams should also recognise if they worked together or had a leader.
Educational Rock Climbing Team Events
Teams that are looking to build communication, personal abilities and personalities should consider rock climbing. Recreational and educational climbers can climb blindfolded or build trust by being tethered with a person who has a different ability. Rock climbing encourages workers or students to use moral support by cheering for each other. Personal fears can be overcome and individual strengths recognised.
Strategies and roles of each climbing course can be incorporated to enforce mission statements, organizational culture, vision statements or individual plans to reach a goal. Debriefing these areas is vital to correlate how climbing to the top can allow an individual to reach a professional planned goal.
