According to the Bible, God cast fallen angels, also known as demons or devils, out of heaven. Since that time, people have been fascinated with these beings. Individuals dress up as fallen angels for various events, such as plays or Halloween. While we can only imagine what demons look like, the more commonly accepted characteristics can easily be mimicked with the use of make-up.

Skin

Most people envision a demon as having dark red skin. Create this look easily using red foundation. During the Halloween season, these products can be purchased at party stores. The rest of the year, they are available at vendors of theatrical make-up. To create a red foundation at home take a very fair foundation or foundation primer and mix with a red lipstick.

Black lipstick can be used on the lips for an non-human look. Black lipstick also works under the eyes and in the hollows of the cheeks to create a sunken appearance.

Hair

Several options exist for styling hair for a fallen angel costume. For instance, using a styling gel to slick hair back mimics Bella Lugosi's look as the evil Dracula. A bright red wig adds to the demonic appearance of the fallen angel. Spray on hair colour may also give the desired look. These products easily wash out with shampoo.

Accessories

Simple accessories provide touches that make the demon costume believable. For instance, plastic red pitchforks, pointy ears and devil's tail are stereotypical characteristics of demons. Most party stores sell these items.

Devil's horns are usually available for purchase at party stores, particularly during the Halloween season. However, should the need for this item take place at other times of the year, you can easily create the horns at home. Using floral arranging foam, sculpt the horns to the size and shape desired. Spray paint them either black or red. Using a glue gun, attach the horns to a plastic hair band.

For a more angelic twist, dress as a traditional good angel. For instance, wear a white satin robe or a white bed sheet with sandals. Most party stores have angel's halos for purchase. To make a good angel into a fallen angel, twist the halo so that it does not sit straight, sending the message that this angel went off the track a bit.

Eyes

No demon costume would be complete without evil eyes. Blood red contact lenses fit the bill perfectly. They are available for purchase at numerous speciality contact lens vendors.

Eye make-up for a fallen angel costume could include the darkening of the brows using a black eyebrow liner. Dark eye shadow colours, including purples, black and rust applied on and around the entire eye add to the devilish facade.
