The cake is often the centrepiece of a bridal shower and, as with all party cakes, is a symbol of merrymaking and congratulations. With the right inscription, a bridal-shower cake becomes more than dessert and serves as the collective warm wishes from the congregation. The trick is to use short, but heartfelt, good luck or best wishes inscriptions that make a statement while still functioning as cake decor.

Formal, classy and stylish bridal showers call for formal, classy and stylish cake inscriptions. It wouldn't be appropriate, for example, to have a cake inscribed with a quirky inscription like "May your life with Craig be full of sugar!" when the bridal shower is an upscale, catered event at a five-star restaurant. For formal events, stick with proper, poetic or serious inscriptions of congratulations and luck such as "Congratulations, Craig and Debra," "Best of luck in your beautiful ever after" or a simple "Best wishes" drawn in fancy cursive.

Playful and Sentimental

Sentimental cake inscriptions are suitable for small affairs, informal showers or showers with playful or romantic themes. "A shower of good wishes" is a warm and playful cake inscription, as is "Here's to the sweet things to come" and "Sweetest wishes for the soon-to-be Mrs.!" Try to tie good-luck inscriptions in with the shower theme for a good-humoured touch. A fitting sentimental, but playful, inscription for a beach-themed shower, for example, may be "Sunny wishes for the future Mr. & Mrs.!"

Funny cake inscriptions aren't for every bride-to-be, but if the guest of honour enjoys a good laugh, a humorous cake inscription will be a special, enjoyable and appreciated touch. Funny inscriptions might include kitschy, trite, sarcastic or naughty sayings. "Happy trails," "Bon voyage," "Good luck, Ann -- you'll need it!" or "Here's to keeping Sean whipped into shape!" are a few examples.

Throughout history, many artists, scholars and thinkers have captured the essence and beauty of love and marriage in memorable, profound phrases and sayings. Use romantic, funny, or playful quotes to inspire the bride and wish her the best. Writer Ambrose Bierce once said, "Love is a temporary insanity curable by marriage." American writer Richard Bach has said that "Real love stories never have endings." Use quotes like these for wishing all the best to the bride in a thoughtful and stylish way.
