The telecommunication industry uses technology and computers to communicate internally and externally through telecommunications technology such as telephone, cable and wireless. Computers bring communication through technologies such as VoIP, Internet faxing, e-mailing, teleconferencing systems and mobile devices. As a whole, society has embraced telecommunication technologies for every type of industry and for personal sense. Companies and individuals are integrating telecommunications into their primary business operations and daily lives.

Teleconferencing involves the use of computers, video and telephone to communicate. Companies use teleconferencing for project-based work, meetings and for providing support to clients. Through teleconferencing, companies can reach their customers and clients worldwide. Businesspeople and individuals can use computers to hook up to teleconferencing systems or initiate sessions for others. Computers involved in teleconferencing have multimedia capabilities, high-speed Internet-connectivity and an account that allows for teleconferencing.

Mobile Communication

Businesses and individuals use mobile devices, such as cell phones and smart phones, to communicate on a daily basis with friends, family and work colleagues. Cell phones can receive information such as files, e-mails and pictures from computers and vice versa. Computers are also used to manage mobile device accounts that maintain the amount of minutes and types of services available.

File Transmission

Through telecommunications, users can transfer different types of files across the Internet to anywhere in the world. Computers are used to create, send and receive files transmitted across telephone, wireless and cable lines worldwide. Server computers also act as data repositories or stores where users can download public or purchased files from a company. Common types of files shared and distributed are movie trailers, music demos, shareware software and ebooks.

Multimedia Broadcasting

Computers have helped create and distribute multimedia content online across cable and wireless systems. Companies specialising in creating e-courses, online movies, podcasts and telecasts have blossomed with the use of computers. With computers, content can be created on demand and viewed live by users around the world. Computers have even allowed users to add to existing content or create their own content and share it with others online.
