Apple Final Cut Pro
Final Cut Pro is a popular video editing program for the Mac. Split screen is relatively simple to achieve in Final Cut. Repeat the action for the lower piece of video, cropping in the opposite direction.
Avid Media Composer
Avid Media Composer is considered the industry standard editing software, available for the Mac and PC. Once the video is layered on tracks, select "Avid Effects" and choose any of the several effects that include the crop tool (such as Blend). Drag the effect down to your top track. Open the Effect Editor and choose "Crop." Drag the left or right lever over to the desired screen-split point. Typically this will be 50 per cent.
