Cupcakes have become popular at more than just kids' birthday parties. In addition to decorating the cupcake unusually, make the cupcake taste unique too by making them in flavours like chocolate cherry soda, lemonade or strawberry ginger.

Hamburger Cupcake

Make a cupcake look like a hamburger for a unique cupcake at almost any casual event. Use yellow cupcakes without a wrapper or icing on top and slice the cupcake to look like a bun. Use icing and chocolate cake as the fillings. Put green lettuce icing on the bottom then, top that with a round cut brownie or chocolate cake as the beef patty. Use red and yellow icing messily squirted around the patty as ketchup and mustard. Replace the top of the cupcake bun to complete the hamburger cupcake.

Beach Bouquet

Make each cupcake a bouquet of shells and flower made of meringue. These are great for a beach wedding or party. To make these beach-themed cupcakes, make a stiff meringue. Put it into a pastry bag with a coupling on the end to easily change the tip for different shells and flower shapes. Use a leaf tip to make leafs, a star tip to make shells and a round tip to make flowers and swirled conch like shells. Pipe the meringue onto parchment paper and bake for about 30 minutes until dry but without any browning. Pipe white buttercream on the top of the cupcake to stick on and arrange the bouquet of meringue shapes.

Butterfly Cupcake

Easily make these versatile and unique butterfly cupcakes for Easter, a ladies lunch, a little girl's birthday or a summer family picnic. Ice the top of any flavour cupcake in a colour that matches your event theme. Stick two pretzels in the cupcake diagonally with the two rounded ends out to look like butterfly wings. Make blue icing dots down the centre of the pretzel butterfly wings and top each butterfly with a green-coated candy as the head. Make two small antennas from liquorice candy to finish the butterfly cupcake.

Truffle Cupcake

A truffle cupcake makes a simple cupcake an elegant, multi-textured dessert. Use a decorative cupcake liner with any flavour cupcakes you like. Top the cupcake with white buttercream and white chocolate truffles and dark chocolate truffles drizzled with white chocolate. Or, top the cupcake with chocolate buttercream and arrange chocolate mint and chocolate peanut butter truffles around the top. Make or choose truffles of various sizes to fit them on the top of the cupcake like a puzzle, filling all available exposed icing with a truffle. These make good wedding favours or dessert reception items. Make each cupcake with different flavours to start conversation amongst those enjoying them.
