Your 19-year-old boyfriend could be taking on more responsibility and becoming independent. He's still active and like to go out and enjoy himself. Look to your 19-year-old boyfriend's hobbies and interest for gift ideas for his birthday. Do things on his birthday that he will enjoy because the day should be focused on making him happy.

Household Items

At 19 years old, your boyfriend could be starting out in his first apartment. Nineteen is a common age for boys to leave home. Purchase him things for his new place. He could always use some of the household essentials, such as pots, pans, plates, bowls, silverware and glasses. After he opens the gifts, use them to cook a birthday dinner for him. After dinner, watch a movie together.

Gift for College

For your 19-year-old boyfriend who is a college student, purchase him things that he can use for school. If he's living on a tight budget, this will help ease the financial burden. Purchase your boyfriend a backpack. Fill the backpack with school supplies, including pencils, pens, erasers, notebook paper, tablets and folders. You can also include a tape recorder and printer ink cartridges. Purchase one of his school books, or arrange for store credit at the campus book store.

19th Theme Party

Celebrate your 19-year-old boyfriend's birthday with a party. Organise a birthday party with his family and friends. Pick a theme for the party that's based on the year he was born. For example, if your boyfriend was born in 1992, hire a disc jockey or an early 1990s cover band to play music from that year. Have the guests dress in clothes that represent the decade.

Sports Game Tickets

Purchase tickets to a sports game. Go with your boyfriend on a date to see his favourite college or professional sports team play. Arrange with team officials to have your boyfriend's birthday announced at the game. You can also arrange for his name and your birthday greeting to be displayed on a message board. Enjoy food and drink while at the game. Purchase a souvenir for him at the venue, or at a retail store before the game.
