The Rat Pack was a loose-knit group of Hollywood celebrities that hung out and had a great time. Its origins date back to the mid-1950s, when actor Humphrey Bogart was seen as the ultimate rat-packer. It is, however, the late-1950s to mid-1960s era Rat Pack that has become legendary. It was comprised of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.

Sophisticated and cool

The Rat Pack cultivated an image of cool sophistication. They had a don't-mess-with-us attitude and a zest for fun and adventure. Women loved them and men wanted to be just like them. They still do. Holding a Rat Pack party is a great way to have some fun and pretend like you're Frank, Sammy, Dean or their girls.

Making a party an event

For those wanting to hold a Rat Pack party, it's wise to think outside the box. How would the real Rat Pack have handled it? With taste and style, that's how. Keeping that in mind, consider where to hold your party. Instead of having it at home, think about hosting it at a local wine-bar. Or, maybe, in a private room at a high-class restaurant. Make it an event, rather than just another party.

Dressed to kill

For the Rat Pack, the look was all-important. That should be the case for your Rat Pack party, too. Tell the guests they have to dress to impress. For men, that means a tuxedo. For women, a chic, sexy and sophisticated evening dress. Since smoking was a big part of the Rat Pack image, why not have cigars and expensive cigarettes available for those that smoke? As for the drinks, only martinis and whisky will work.

On-stage entertainment

Wherever the Rat Pack appeared, musical entertainment was never far behind. You might want to consider paying homage to the Rat Pack by having stylish musical accompaniment at your party. Forget a DJ and all the latest hits. Instead, give some thought to hiring a sultry singer, a girl who has the moves and the voice. Having her perform a repertoire of cool, slow, jazz numbers will echo back to those long gone days when the Rat Pack ruled.
