Adding a shield to your knight or warrior costume will improve the authenticity of your impersonation and have your family and friends wanting one too. While you can purchase a shield from a costume shop, this can be quite expensive. To cut your costume costs, make a shield yourself out of fibreglass. Cut a shield out of your sheet of cardboard to your desired dimensions.
Attach the piece of cardboard to an object that has a gradual curve, such as a dustbin, with the bungee cord. Leave the cardboard attached to the rounded object for about one hour. Remove it. The cardboard will take on a slightly rounded shape.
Put on your gloves and attach fibreglass cloth to the front and back of the rounded shield using staples. You may have to cut the cloth to the shape of your shield. Staple around the outside edge of the shield, making sure the cloth is tight.
Spray a light coat of fibreglass resin over the entire surface of the shield, followiing the directions on the resin can. Apply more coats if needed.
Allow the shield to dry for at least one hour before you use it.
