Belkin N wireless routers include a parental control feature that can filter access to websites on your local network. Belkin routers come with a free six months of the parental control feature, which can filter websites based on content categories. Each time a user loads a website, the router contacts Belkin's parental control servers and gets information about the website's rating. If the website is filtered by your policy, an error page appears. The error page states that the website was blocked and provides a reason. You can also use the parental control to filter specific websites.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Type "" into your Web browser's address bar, and press "Enter."

  2. 2

Click the "Utilities" tab on the page that appears, and click the "Parental Control" link.

  3. 3

    Click the "Subscribe Now" button.

  4. 4

Provide an e-mail address, and a parental control password. The parental control service sends alerts to this e-mail address and uses this parental control password to control the parental control settings. Even if a user on your network has access to the Belkin router, the user can't change the parental control settings without the password you provide here.

  5. 5

Click the "Modify" button on the page that appears to modify your parental control policy.

  6. 6

Customise the categories of websites you want to block on the Policy Administration tab. The parental control blocks many types of offensive websites by default.

  7. 7

Click the "Overrides" tab to create custom filtering rules. Provide a website address and set the website to "Always Blocked" to filter specific websites.

Tips and warnings

  • You can click the "Override" button on the parental control page to override the parental control for one hour on the current computer. All other computers on the network are still filtered normally.
