The APN setting on the Sidekick tells the device which GSM data network to connect with. If your Sidekick has a data plan but cannot use the Internet, check the APN. If the setting is incorrect, the Sidekick won't browse the Web, cannot use instant messaging or the backup feature, and cannot send and receive e-mail and MMS. Without the correct APN, the Sidekick can make and receive calls and text messages, but that's about it. The phone may display an error message indicating the APN is incorrect.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Press the Menu button to open the main menu on the Sidekick.

  2. 2

Select "Settings" and open "Network Options."

  3. 3

Open "Change APN" and type your APN in the box. Depending on your carrier, you may also need to add a username and password.

  4. 4

Choose "Set APN" when you've entered the necessary settings.

Tips and warnings

  • T-Mobile's APN setting is with no username or password. If you use a different carrier, contact your carrier's technical support department for the correct settings.
