Having a solid backup strategy is a good idea not just for your computer, but also your iPhone. When you back up your iPhone's data, you retain copies of information such as calendar events, e-mail settings and voice memos. This is particularly important with voice memos, because once you delete them, you cannot recover them on your iPhone unless you restore the iPhone from a backup, which you do in iTunes.
