Remote interviews suit a variety of media outlets on a budget. From web-only comedy series to online news media sites, remotes create lively content between the correspondent and their interviewees with a minimum of technology and effort. A microphone flag, added to the correspondent's microphone can add a professional look, as well as immediate brand identification in person and during broadcast.

Cut a piece of gatorboard with a hobby knife, the height and three times the desired width of the microphone flag.

  2. 2

Lay the cut piece of gatorboard on your work surface face-side down.

  3. 3

Score the back of the gatorboard at the ends of each panel section with the hobby knife.

  4. 4

Widen each side of the scores at a 15-degree angle with the hobby knife, creating a V-shaped groove.

  5. 5

Fold the gatorboard at the grooved points to form a triangle.

  6. 6

Glue the ends of the gatorboard together with a hot glue gun.

  7. 7

Trace the outline of the gatorboard triangle onto another piece of gatorboard.

  8. 8

Cut out this triangle tracing and scrape away the foam from the paper front approximately the depth of the gatorboard with the hobby knife.

  9. 9

Cut out a circle from the centre of the triangle tracing with a hobby knife large enough for the microphone handle to fit inside.

  10. 10

Trace the interior triangle shape of the microphone flag onto a piece of polyurethane foam approximately the same height as the microphone flag.

  11. 11

Cut the triangle shape from the foam with a hobby knife.

  12. 12

Insert the foam into the microphone flag and lay the triangular piece with the cut circle on top of the flag.

  13. 13

Mark the inner outline of the circle onto the foam and mark the centre of the circle with an X.

  14. 14

Cut the lines of the X through the piece of foam.

  15. 15

Glue the triangle piece with the cut circle onto the top of the microphone flag with hot glue.
