How to Sketch a Teddy Bear
You can add clothing to your drawing to create a different bear character. ( Images)

Sketching a teddy bear is a fun activity that you can share with a child or group of children as a simple art project. You can simplify the teddy bear drawing into a framework using basic shapes like ovals and circles. This will make forming the shape of the teddy bear easier. Once you're finished with the basic shape of the bear, you can customise the look and colour of the sketch as well.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • Pencil
  • Coloured pencils or crayons
  • Blank paper
  • Ruler

  1. 1

Use a ruler to draw a line down the centre of the paper. This will be used to centre the shapes symmetrically when creating the framework of the bear. Draw the line lightly with a regular pencil so it can be easily covered or erased.

  2. 2

Draw two big circles on top of each other that are overlapping slightly in the centre. These will be the head and body of the teddy bear. Draw these shapes lightly, like you did the centre line so they can be covered or erased later.

  3. 3

Draw four ovals, two will represent small arms and two will represent legs, which will be slightly larger. Both pairs of limbs should be attached to the bottom circle or slightly overlap.

  4. 4

Draw two small circles on the top of the bears head to represent ears.

  5. 5

Draw one circle in the lower centre of the head to represent the snout.

  6. 6

Draw a small sideways oval in the upper centre of the snout to represent the nose.

  7. 7

Draw two small circles above the snout to represent the eyes of the bear.

  8. 8

Draw over the outline of the bear with a black or brown pencil. You can draw over the outline of the shapes that you made earlier to hide them. Try using wavy lines to represent fur.

  9. 9

Fill in the bear's eyes with a coloured pencil to bring its face to life.

  10. 10

Colour in the teddy bear with a colour of your choice. Try adding accessories like clothing to the bear to further customise it.

Tips and warnings

  • Erase any visible framework lines to clean up the sketch.
