If you prefer to maximise the viewing area of Internet Explorer 8, you can hide your tool bars. However, you may not want them to disappear entirely, since you may need quick access to commonly used tool bars, such as the address bar. The solution is to "auto-hide" the address bar, which makes it invisible until you move your mouse to the top of your browsing windows. Internet Explorer 8 allows you to auto-hide your address bar by using its full-screen mode.

Instructions

  1. 1

Open Internet Explorer, and move your mouse away from the top of the browser window.

  2. 2

Press the "F11" button to enter full-screen mode. All your toolbars, including the address bar, should disappear into auto-hide mode, which is the default option. If the address bar does not disappear, then you need to enable auto-hide mode.

  3. 3

Right-click the red "X" to the right of the address bar and check "Auto-Hide."

  4. 4

Move your mouse pointer away from the top of the screen to hide the address bar.

Move your mouse pointer to the top of Internet Explorer to make the address bar reappear.
