Jailbreaking an iPad is a process that allows you to unlock the device from iTunes and install software from a third-party application store called Cydia. Apps on Cydia do not need to pass through Apple's approval process, and often offer features that allow for much greater customisation of the iPad than Apple typically allows. One such application is Winterboard, which allows you to install "themes" that change the overall appearance of the iPad's home screens, icons and launch screens. Removal of Cydia apps must be performed through Cydia itself.
