How to Stick Wire to Fondant

Wired fondant decorations are inserted into fondant covered cakes and are used as decorative toppers. Once you have created fondant decorations, you can use florist wire and an adhesive formed from thinned fondant to stick the decoration onto the wire. You can wire fondant decorations that you have made in advance or make decorations just prior to sticking wire to them. You can stick wire to your fondant cake decorations to create stunning works of art.

Make a 1 1/2 inch ball with the ready to use fondant. Place the fondant ball on your workspace and add 1/2 tsp water to the fondant. Knead the fondant to mix it with the water. The fondant will thin out and become soft and sticky.

Put the thinned fondant into a parchment bag without a tip. Cut the length of the tape wrapped florist wire equal to the height that you want the fondant decoration to sit, plus the length of the decoration.

Apply a generous amount of the thinned fondant to the tip of the florist wire. Use your finger to move it down so that it covers a portion of the wire that is the same as the length of your fondant decoration. Press the fondant decoration into the thinned fondant on the florist wire. Hold it for 30 seconds or until the fondant has stuck onto the wire.
