For American service members stationed overseas and Europeans, moving to the United States poses a lot of logistical issues. One of these issues includes household appliances. In many European nations, appliances work on 220 volts. By themselves, these appliances will not work in American 110-volt wall outlets. To get around this problem, a step up/step down transformer is the best solution. It can convert 220 volts to 110 volts and vice versa. So, if a person does not stay long in the US, the transformer can be shipped to Europe and used for any device bought while in the US.
