For American service members stationed overseas and Europeans, moving to the United States poses a lot of logistical issues. One of these issues includes household appliances. In many European nations, appliances work on 220 volts. By themselves, these appliances will not work in American 110-volt wall outlets. To get around this problem, a step up/step down transformer is the best solution. It can convert 220 volts to 110 volts and vice versa. So, if a person does not stay long in the US, the transformer can be shipped to Europe and used for any device bought while in the US.

Instructions

    Insert the 220-volt appliance into the transformer's 220-volt electrical socket.

    Locate the transformer's round-pin plug and insert it into the 110-volt outlet on the transformer.

    Plug the transformer's 110-volt plug into wall's 110-volt electrical socket.

  4. 4

    Turn the transformer on, if it features an "On" switch.

  5. 5

    Turn on the 220-volt appliance as use it as you were originally intending.
