How to Replace the DVD Drive on a HP Compaq NC6400

No matter how you use your HP NC6400 laptop, having a working DVD drive can make it much more useful. With a DVD drive, you can make copies of your important files, enjoy a movie and create backup copies of your critical software programs. If the DVD drive in your HP NC6400 fails, you can replace it on your own, without the hassle or expense of a trip to the repair shop.

Instructions

    Shut down the HP NC6400 laptop and wait for it to power down. Disconnect the power cord and remove any peripheral devices.

    Turn the laptop over and push the battery locking latch to the unlocked position. Grasp the battery and pull it out of the case.

  3. 3

    Remove the retaining screws that hold the DVD drive in place. Set the screws aside in a safe place.

  4. 4

    Grasp the existing DVD drive by the front bezel and pull it out of the laptop. Insert the new DVD drive into the slot. Push it until it snaps into place. Replace the screws, put the battery back in, and power on your NC 6400 laptop.
