How to Share a Scanner With a Homegroup

Updated February 21, 2017

Scanners are used on computers to transform hardcopies into digital documents. If you are using a scanner in your home, but you have more than one computer in the house, you can easily share the scanner over your homegroup connection in Windows 7. Sharing a scanner over your network's homegroup can alleviate having to run cables and carry a scanner into another room. You can set up sharing of your scanner with just a couple of clicks and minimal knowledge of your system.

Click the "Start" button and then click on the "Search" bar. Type "homegroup" into the search bar and then press the "Enter" button.

Click on the "Create a homegroup" option from the menu. Click the "Scanners" box in the next menu that appears and the click the "Next" button.

Write down the password that displays on the screen and then click the "Finish" button.

Use the password to access the scanner on your homegroup with other computers.
