How to validate passport numbers

Updated February 21, 2017

Aside from its intended use to prove identity and citizenship of United States citizens travelling abroad, U.S. passports are used as a form of identity in several other scenarios. Many people use passports as a form of photo identification, much like a driver's license; passports prove both age and identity. To prove your passport is not a forgery, many agencies need to validate your passport number before accepting it as proof of identification.

Visit the World-Check website to validate a passport number. This site allows users to input passport numbers to check for validity and forgery.

Create an account with World-Check and log in to your account. Click on the "Passport-Check" link to enter a passport number. Submit your search.

View the results of your passport number check. The information provided will show you whether it is a valid number.
