Steam provides users with access to over 1,100 video games. Through Steam's platform, you can purchase individual licenses for these games, allowing you to download them through any computer utilising your Steam account. Since Steam games do not include packaging or distribution charges, you can get many video games at lower costs through Steam's digital download centre. If you decide you want to go back to using hard-copied video games, or if you use a different download platform, you can disable your steam account in a few minutes.

  1. 1

Contact Steam using the "Support" page of its website. Steam allows you to completely delete accounts that do not contain any downloadable games. If you have downloaded games to your account, Steam will not delete your account. The Steam website explains that accounts with downloaded games are retained, even if you explicitly request deletion. However, Steam accounts do not charge users any usage fees, so you can simply let the account sit inactively. You can also disable Steam from being used on your computer, even if the account remains intact on the Steam website.

  2. 2

Click on the Windows "Start" button.

  3. 3

    Click "Control Panel."

  4. 4

    Click "Programs."

  5. 5

Click "Uninstall a Program" from underneath the "Programs and Features" heading.

  6. 6

Click on "Steam" from the list of programs.

  7. 7

Click "Uninstall" and enter your administrator password when prompted. Windows will automatically remove Steam from your computer, disabling future Steam account usage on your system.
