Having a sun-kissed glow makes you feel good. Tanned skin often gives the illusion of a thinner physique and makes you look young and healthy. Store-bought tanning oils can help you achieve a tanned look, but they can be pricey. Tanning beds also help increase the bronzing of skin, but even when you purchase a package of minutes, it can get expensive. Making your own bronzing oil at home is a simple and cost-effective way of achieving that gorgeous sun-kissed tan.

Things you need
- Instant coffee
- Olive oil
- Almond oil
- SPF 20 sun block
- Empty spray bottle
- Spring water
Chop up two carrot sticks in 1/2-inch slices. Add the sliced carrots to a pot. Fill the pot with two cups of spring water. Boil the carrots for about 25 minutes or until they're slightly softened. Reduce heat to a simmer.
Add 4 heaping teaspoons of instant coffee to the pot and stir until dissolved and the water is brown. Let the mixture simmer for about eight minutes. Remove from heat and let the mixture stand and cool completely. Speed up the process by adding an ice cube if desired.
Place the strainer over a bowl and pour the mixture through it to separate the carrots. Throw the carrots into the compost. Add 1/4 cup of almond oil and 1/4 cup of olive oil to the bowl and whisk the ingredients together. Place the funnel into the top of the spray bottle and carefully pour the mixture into the bottle. Ask for assistance if it's too difficult. Put the spray top back onto the bottle and shake it.
Smooth a thin layer of SPF 20 sun block over your skin 20 minutes before tanning. Let your skin absorb the cream before applying the homemade bronzer oil. Spray the sections of your body that you want to receive a golden tan on and lightly rub to spread the mixture -- do not attempt to rub it into your skin, simply spread a thin layer. Tan in the sun for about 20 minutes on each side, back and stomach.
Tips and warnings
- You can add more oil to the mixture if you desire a stronger bronzing solution.
- It's suggested to wear a layer of sun block under the tanning oil to prevent serious sunburn.
- If you go swimming, reapply a layer of sun block and follow up with a layer of homemade tanning oil if you want to continue sun tanning.
