A quick and easy way to make a custom-designed lampshade is to cover it with ribbon wound round it. Embellish this newly created, ribboned lampshade by attaching contrasting, decorative trim to it. When attaching decorative elements such as trim, remember that less is often more. A few contrasting pieces of trim will usually make a more pleasing design than a jumbled mess of dozens of contrasting pieces of trim.

- Tape measure
- Fabric glue, craft glue or hot glue gun
Determine the position or positions on the ribbon-filled lampshade where you wish to place the trim.
Measure and cut pieces of trim slightly longer than the measurements, to make sure the pieces will fit well.
Attach pieces of trim using fabric glue, craft glue or a hot glue gun. Put the glue on the item you are gluing on the shade and then put it in position.
Hold the trim in position for a few seconds, until the glue sets up enough that it holds the trim in place itself.
Allow the glue to dry for the length of time recommended by the glue manufacturer.
