When using the Sony PlayStation 3 with an Internet connection, you can download free demos directly to the system via the online PlayStation Store. However, if you don't have the PS3 hooked up to the Internet you do have an alternative method of playing the demos. You can download the PS3 information to your PC, then save the files to a flash drive and upload the data directly to the PlayStation 3.

  1. 1

Download and install the PS3 Proxy onto your computer (see Resources, then click "Regular Download" followed by "Download").

  2. 2

Click on the URL bar at the top of your web browser, then type "about:config" and press "Enter." This loads the PS3 proxy configuration page. Once in the page, right-click the large table and choose "New" and "String."

  3. 3

Select "general.usergent.override" and click "OK". Type in the Internet browser version you are using, followed by the release version and then (PlayStation 3; 1.00), and then click "OK." For example, if using Firefox type in "Mozilla/6.0 (PlayStation 3; 1.00)". This leads you directly to the PlayStation Store sign-in page.

  4. 4

Type in your PS3 username and password (this is set up when first installing the PS3) and click "OK."

  5. 5

Choose "Download" once in the PS3 store and click "Demo." Select the demo you want and click the download option.

  6. 6

Plug a USB flash drive into a USB port on the computer. Click "Start" and "Computer," and then double-click the removable-device icon. This loads a window representing the flash drive. Click and drag the downloaded demo file into the open window, then close the window, right-click the icon and choose "Eject."

  7. 7

Plug the flash drive into one of the two USB ports on the front of the PS3. The PlayStation automatically detects the flash drive and brings up the stored information. Select the demo and choose "Install" to install it onto your PS3.
