AutoCAD uses the .shx file format for design projects. AutoCAD is an industry-leading program that allows you to create and customise just about any device, ranging from a computer mouse to a jet. AutoCAD regularly uses .shx files, so you should have no problem programming the software to run and accept your image file when it comes time to import the data.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Launch AutoCAD. Click "File" and select "Open" to load the project on which you want to work.

  2. 2

Click the "File" tab once the project loads into view. It is not possible to upload the .shx file onto your computer until after you start a project and information is present on the screen, such as a wire design or blueprint layout.

  3. 3

Click "Import" from the "File" pull-down menu. This loads an import search window. Select the .shx file you want in the AutoCAD project and click "OK." This will import the image file directly into your project.
