Building a docking station for your laptop can help create a more ergonomic work environment, allowing you to place the laptop at a more natural angle and reducing the typical hunching-over posture that many people take when working with their laptops. You can build your own docking station by using some simple household materials in about a half an hour. Building your own station can also help save some money compared to buying an expensive laptop docking station.

Things you need
- Metal coat hanger
- Workbench or sturdy desk
Hold the coat hanger upright on top of the work bench and position it so that half of the hanger is on the surface.
Apply pressure on to the centre of the coat hanger to create a small bend in the bottom metal piece of the hanger.
Press down on each corner of the hanger to create a bend that is approximately 30 to 45 degrees, about three inches in from the tip of each corner of the coat hanger.
Manipulate the metal corners so that they are bent at equal angles and then place the hanger on your desk so that the bent corners are facing upward.
Fold the screen of your laptop all the way back and insert the bottom half of the laptop into the bent corners of the coat hanger, which will cradle it in the same manner as a typical laptop docking station would.
