Whether it's a day at the beach you're planning for or just a day of lounging in your own backyard, having protection from the sun is essential. Sun protection includes sunscreen and sunglasses, of course, but you should also wear a sun hat to protect your scalp and face from sun damage. If you don't have a sun hat on hand, you can easily make one out of newspaper.

Things you need
- Packing tape
Place a few sheets of newspaper on the centre of your head or on the person's head you're making the hat for. Pull the sheets down around you or the person's head tightly, but not too tight. You don't want to rip the paper. Using more sheets of newspaper will make for a thicker and stiffer hat.
Tape or have someone tape a rim around your head. This forms the bowl of the hat.
Remove the newspaper hat and place it on your work surface. Roll up the paper around the bowl of the hat to build the brim. The larger the newspaper used, the larger the brim and the more effective it will be at blocking sun.
