Transferring contacts from one phone to another used to mean writing down each and every contact name and number then tapping them in to the phone one by one. Now there are programs designed to transfer contacts from the BlackBerry Pearl to a Samsung Rogue, even though contacts are transferring from a BlackBerry smart phone to a nonsmart phone.

    Backup Existing Contacts

    Download and install BlackBerry Desktop Software from BlackBerry's website to ensure the most recent version is used. Restart computer after installation to complete device driver installation.

    Plug in BlackBerry Pearl to the computer via USB cable. Sync BlackBerry Pearl with BlackBerry Desktop Software.

    Perform backup of all information and create a synchronisation partnership with Microsoft Outlook. Complete this step in BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0 by clicking "Synchronization" and then "Configure."

    Export Contacts From Outlook

    Confirm contact synchronisation by viewing the contact folder in Outlook. Do not export the contact file until synchronisation from the BlackBerry Pearl is complete.

    Select "File," then "Advanced," and select "Export" to launch an export dialogue box in Outlook 2010. The exact path to export contacts may differ depending on the version of Outlook being used.

    Choose the option "Export to a file," then click "Next." Choose "Comma Separated Values (Windows)" for the file type. Click "Next."

    Scroll to the appropriate contact folder in Outlook, highlight it, and click "Next." Save the file to a folder that is easy to find, and with a unique file name.

    Import Contacts to Backup Assistant

    Power off the BlackBerry Pearl, then turn on and activate the Samsung Rogue. Place an outbound call to complete the activation process.

    Download Backup Assistant on the Samsung Rogue by navigating to "Media Center," then "Browse and Download." Click the preinstalled Backup Assistant link or click "Get New Applications" if link is missing.

    Log on to the cellular provider's website and navigate to the Backup Assistant page. Use the search bar to find the page if no link is readily available.

    Select "Import Contacts" from the page menu. Browse to locate the .csv file previously exported from Outlook. Select "Outlook CSV File" from the drop-down menu as the type of file being imported. Click "Import."

    Sync Backup Assistant to the Samsung Rogue to complete import of BlackBerry Pearl contacts to the phone.

Tips and warnings

  • Ensure data services are not blocked on the Samsung Rogue to enable Backup Assistant download.
